Kimani Ng’ang’a Maruge (from Kenya) had always dreamed of going to school, but never got that opportunity until 2004, when free education became available in his hometown district.
At 84 years, Kimani started primary school!! “You are never too old to learn,” said Kimani. “At no time ever say, ‘It’s too late to learn,’ not until the day you die.”
In September 2005, Kimani was invited to New York to address the United Nations Millennium Development Summit. Speaking through an interpreter (having been in school for only one year), he advocated for free primary education for all. What an opportunity, and how selfless his demeanor!!
Kimani was looking forward not only to complete his primary and high school education, but to also complete a veterinary diploma and to a brighter future.
He died in August 2009.

In July 2008, 91-year-old former soldier, Michael Cobb, became one of the oldest people to receive a doctorate from Cambridge University.
The World War II veteran earned his PhD by creating an atlas of railway stations built in Britain between 1807 and 1994.
Perhaps you dropped out of school early due to family or financial reasons or your own poor choices. Or you did complete college but have not studied or done anything more since. “So what do I need to do, or how do I start?” you might ask. Even if you have been out of formal schooling for decades, it does not preclude you from expanding your knowledge base.
