The Digital Economy Loses One of its Icons – Steve Jobs

My friend, Albert, and I were given rare access to a university’s main computer room. It was nice to see the big IBM mainframe computer working away, but what caught our attention and soon our fascination was a small box-like machine sitting on the sidelines, waiting to welcome anyone who wanted to experience the fun side of computers – and fun indeed it was, playing games written in BASIC. Its name was Apple II. On the same day, I heard its creator’s name, Steve Jobs, for the first time. That was October 1980.

Despite not owning any Apple products to date myself, I cannot but notice them all around me – used by Apple-ites in an almost cult-like fashion.

Steve will be missed in my Digital Economy seminars, especially the session on “Leadership in the Digital Economy” – where I never cease to comment on the “digital impact” created by Steve Jobs through Apple, as well as to commend his visionary leadership and genius.

The Digital Economy has lost one of its icons. …. On behalf of Apple aficionados, I say: Adiós, Steve.
