What Is Your Ultimate Aspiration?

An aspiration is a will to succeed, a cherished desire, a longing ambition, an objective desire.

What do you want to be in the future?

As an individual, is it to be a key political figure, a fantastic home-maker, a superb manager, a successful businessperson, a notable educator, an influential community leader, an inventor, a great entertainer or legendary sportsperson?

As a start-up, is it to be a thriving business? As a thriving business, is it to be the market leader in your industry or region?

What picture do you have of yourself for the future? Some would call this a dream or vision. A vision is a picture of your desired future. I am reminded of the proverb, which says that without a vision, a person walks aimlessly and lives carelessly.

Are you living one day at a time and without a sense of mission or clear strategy or are you steadily working towards your goals?

Across the globe, many carry on with their lives without a clearly defined purpose, only to realize regretfully much later that they have not accomplished anything meaningful.

Sadly, you will find people who work all their lives doing what they do not enjoy and then retire to then begin to do what they had always enjoyed but never gave time to. Their working lives ran like a treadmill, characterized by drudgery and self-inflicted confinement.

The only accolade attesting to their decades of hard work is a certificate of appreciation for the tenure of long service, sometimes accompanied by a wall clock or other ceremonial gesture of appreciation from an employer. Without sounding cynical, the ticking of the wall clock might serve as a reminder of the brevity of time to “make up” for the lost time.

Some reading this may say “That will never happen to me.” Unfortunately, unless appropriate steps are taken, this undesirable outcome could be repeated for many.
