The Skillful are not necessarily Wealthy
The story is told of a poor wise man whose advice helped to deliver a city under siege. Yet no one remembered him afterwards – because wisdom that does not translate into personal success is not usually taken seriously.
In life, it is not what you do for a profession or pursue as a career that makes you successful, but rather how you use your skills.
There are poor and wealthy people in every profession on earth. What distinguishes the latter is their ability to harness their resources and convert them into opportunities.
To illustrate the point, ask people whom they think is the most skillful soccer player in the world today. Most people knowledgeable about the sport will mention names other than that of David Beckham. So why is he among the best paid soccer players in the world? Unlike his compatriots, David found a way to price his skills as part of a package that made many top soccer club managers want to have him as part of their team.
The Educated don’t always lead Successful Lives
There has always been a perception, albeit a wrong one, that acquiring an education brings success. If that were the case, the most successful people on earth would be university professors.
I have found that it is not what a person studies as a discipline that necessarily makes a difference in life, but rather the quality of the decisions and actions taken by the person. These can have positive or negative consequences.
The decisions and actions that lead to success include wise planning, common sense, getting abreast with the necessary facts, and taking bold steps.
